Bankroll tool

Betting Bankroll Calculator

Calculate percentage-based stake size and see how a bankroll changes after consecutive losses.

Quick answer

A percentage bankroll rule sets stake as a fraction of current bankroll. This tool shows exposure and drawdown scenarios; it does not guarantee bankroll preservation.

What Is a Betting Bankroll?

A bankroll is the amount deliberately set aside for betting rather than ordinary living expenses. Bankroll management creates rules for how much of that amount can be exposed on individual decisions and how stake size changes as the balance changes.

What Does Percentage Staking Do?

Percentage staking recalculates each stake from the current bankroll. After a loss, the next stake becomes smaller; after growth, it becomes larger. This creates a compounding exposure pattern that differs from using the same fixed monetary stake every time.

Worked Example

With a starting bankroll of 1,000 and a 2% rule, the first stake is 20. After ten consecutive losses, recalculating 2% from the remaining bankroll after each loss leaves about 817.07. That is an 18.29% drawdown. The scenario illustrates risk, not a prediction that ten losses will occur.

Why Model Losing Sequences?

Short-run variance can produce clusters of losses even when a forecasting method has merit. Modeling losing sequences helps show whether a chosen stake fraction is tolerable. It also makes clear why aggressive staking can produce severe drawdowns before any long-run advantage has time to emerge.

Does a Smaller Stake Create Positive Expectation?

No. Stake size controls exposure but does not turn a negative-value bet into a positive-value one. Bankroll management and selection quality are separate layers. A disciplined staking rule can reduce damage from poor decisions, but it cannot repair incorrect probabilities or unfavorable prices.

What Is Drawdown?

Drawdown measures the decline from a reference bankroll level. A 20% drawdown requires a 25% gain on the reduced balance to return to the starting level. As drawdowns deepen, the percentage recovery required becomes larger, which is one reason stake control matters.

How Should Limits Be Set?

A bankroll framework can include maximum stake percentage, session limits and rules against chasing losses. The appropriate limits depend on personal circumstances and tolerance for loss. Money needed for essential expenses should not be treated as betting capital.

What Are This Tool’s Limits?

This model shows consecutive full-stake losses under a percentage rule. Real betting histories include wins, pushes, variable odds, partial settlements and changing stake decisions. Use the output as a stress test rather than a forecast of future balance.

Tool boundary: The calculator performs the stated arithmetic using the values you enter. It does not validate a probability estimate, remove uncertainty or guarantee a betting result.

How Should You Interpret the Output?

The output from Betting Bankroll Calculator should be read as the mathematical result of the values entered, not as a forecast that an individual wager will win. If an input is an estimate, especially a probability estimate, test a range of plausible values rather than relying on one precise number. A small change in assumptions can materially change expected value, Kelly stake size or other derived outputs.

What Should You Record Before Using the Result?

Record the market or game, the odds or payout, the stake or bankroll, the probability estimate where applicable, and the time the inputs were observed. This makes the calculation reproducible and gives you something concrete to review after the outcome. The useful question is whether the assumptions and arithmetic were reasonable at the time, not whether one result happened to be a win.

What Is the Most Important Limitation to Keep in Mind?

The framework on this page supports a better-defined decision, but it cannot remove uncertainty. Keep the original inputs, assumptions and stake rules visible, and avoid changing the interpretation simply because the latest result was favourable or unfavourable. Where a probability, model output or operator feature is estimated or time-sensitive, recheck it before acting. The purpose of the guide is to make reasoning easier to inspect, compare and review, not to create certainty where none exists.
